Here is an act of random kindness that was really appreciated
There is a bus driver (me) who has had a week of getting up at 4:30 in the chill winter mornings, driving people about their business in the impatient fast Auckland traffic. Patiently listening to grumbling passengers complaining about lateness, impatiently muttering under the breath at drivers cutting in on the bus. Feeling a growing sleep deficit dull reflexes as passengers yell “Driver you’ve missed my stop!” Feeling that they are all against you.
Then a tiny, ancient Chinese woman totters off the bus, slipping a chocolate toffee into my hand.
